Anish Kapoor a renown sculpture and artist of many sorts has finally came to Istanbul. Probably one of the most significant of his generation and era, his art work has always been among the most surprising, exciting, thought provoking and even shocking, at times.
The first day of his exhibition at Sabancı Museum , the artist gave a stimulating talk on the process of his art making, on the ideas, thoughts and feelings behind his development as an artist. He discussed his existentialist and psychoanalytic perspective into the art making, by giving examples from his works.
According to Kapoor; "art, is the state of not knowing what you are doing" and basically de-schooling , doing the opposite of everything he learnt or had to do. For him what meant to be an artist? why did it mattered? or who cares?, were questions to be asked and found out during his entire life.

Illusion as the greatest truth and sculptures out of colors, mirrors, fabric, stones...
Kapoor, says he can be whomever he wants in his studio, uncovering something magical, something fascinating that jumps out of him. He discovers and makes it into as a reflection, knowing history and culture, he put us in dialogue with all, through the present object that has shaped in many forms (like his colored pigment series looking as if they are the ice-bergs-hidden underground).
His works are generally formed into find human presence in any object or non-object. His main intention, has been trying to find consciousness by animating sculptures that are standing still. His Indian origins also direct him in the way he forms his art and describes his obsession to the color of red; being the color of the Indian soil and the human interiors. According to him, being the darkest color ever, more then black and dark blue.
Being against the notion to what is sculpture has to be real, for him it is the illusion that is the greatest truth and the quickness in wether the eye will be fooled or not, by it.
